Many years ago, Mary Discher encouraged Presbyterian Women in the Congregation to contribute handmade afghans to Church Women United. A group of women have been knitting and crocheting squares from washable yarn ever since. These squares are sewn into afghans and delivered to Church Women United, who then donates them to needy causes. In the past, afghans have been donated to Aids Rochester, the Episcopal Home, the Presbyterian Home, Serenity House, Mercy House, dialysis units, homeless shelters, New ROC (formally Blossom North) and most recently to Grace House (Saving Grace Ministry for transition of released prisoners back into society.)
Please consider donating washable yarn (worsted weight is best) to continue this ministry. New skeins as well as leftovers from your projects are needed, as small amounts can be used. Also, if you would like to knit or crochet squares, ask Shirley Georgi for directions for the 7” by 9” squares.
